What Is Byetta Used For?
Byetta is an injectable medication used to control blood sugar control in adults with type-2 diabetes.
What Is Pancreatitis? 
Pancreatitis is swelling of the pancreas, which can lead to nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Some types of pancreatitis, like necrotizing pancreatitis, can cause severe multi-organ damage.
In October 2007 there were reports of 30 instances of Byetta-related pancreatitis, which prompted the FDA to request that Byetta manufacturers change their label to indicate pancreatitis as a risk. However, Amylin and Lilly only included a vague warning about “acute pancreatitis.” In 2008, ten more cases developed, six of which were fatal.

Brand-name Byetta is manufactured by Lilly USA and Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
What Is the Status of the Byetta Lawsuits?
There have been a number of Byetta lawsuits filed this year. Many were filed in state courts, and removed to federal courts, where motions to remand back to state court are pending or have recently been granted. The cases are still in the initial stages, and many have not yet begun formal discovery.
