Reviews from Miller & Zois Clients In the last five years, Miller & Zois has obtained 14 seven-figure verdicts and settlements and well over $60,000,000 in settlements and jury verdicts. Here is what clients and referring lawyers are saying about Miller & Zois:

    • “My prior lawyer was not able to get the insurance companies to offer a single penny in my case. Then my lawyer referred me to Ron and Laura. It was a long fight and they fought for me every step of the way. My case settled for $1.31 million.”

      A.A. (Baltimore City)

    • I did not get an offer for my case because the insurance company said they were denying coverage. My lawyer then referred me to Miller & Zois. After Miller & Zois got involved, the offer was raised to $150,000. We thought that was not fair so Miller & Zois took my case to arbitration. Our case was well prepared and perfectly executed. The arbitrator awarded me $405,000.”

    • My then pregnant wife was struck as a pedestrian by a motor vehicle back in 2012. After being contacted by the insurance carrier of the driver while she was still lying in ICU, I called Miller & Zois because I knew we needed someone on our side while we worked through one of the most difficult times of our lives.

My wife had to undergo major surgery and spent 4 weeks in the hospital while my son was being treated in the ICU. Never having been through anything like this before, all the staff at Miller & Zois were caring and considerate and held our hands and walked us through a very difficult process in taking on our case.

We started working with attorney Bob Fiore and his paralegal Sara who are wonderful people and some of the hardest working legal minds in the state of Maryland. Initially the insurance carrier denied liability and refused to pay anything at all, it was only Sara and Bob’s diligent investigations and hard work that led us to find out that thedriver had difficulty seeing. It was then that Bob and Sara kicked it into high gear and filed suit in Montgomery County Circuit Court, after hiring an expert witness(ophthalmologist) to review the driver’s medical records and to provide pre-trial testimony showing that the drivers vision impairment contributed to his inability to see my wife in the roadway. After all this the insurance carrier was still only willing to offer us $125,000. Bob knew the case was worth more and was willing to see it through to the end. After several sessions back and forth and Bob’s bulldog negotiation skills our final recovery was $375,000, more than enough to cover all the hospital bills and future surgeries my wife required.

If it weren’t for Miller & Zois and more specifically Bob Fiore and Sara, my wife and I would have been lost and buried in medical debt. They quite literally worked as hard as if not harder than the doctors to save our lives. I would recommend Miller & Zois to anyone with a similar situation, with Miller & Zois you are not just a case or a dollar amount. They truly care about their clients and go out of their way to make sure you get the best possible recovery for your case!

    • “I refer all of my serious injury cases in Maryland to Miller & Zois because they turn over every last stone to maximize the value of their case. The last case I referred to them settled for $1.2 million.”

    • “It has been one week since our unanimous jury verdict supporting our claim of wrongful death against the doctor who failed to treat my husband. We have all had time to catch our breath and reflect on the events of our six day medical malpractice trial. There are really not enough words of praise on your handling of our case. The usual questions of friends, “Do you have a good attorney?” were answered the first day of trial with your expert presentation of the facts in our case. The question was answered with, “We are very impressed with your attorney, you are in great hands.”

Kathy Dixon, (Montgomery County) after $2.5 million verdict

    • “The insurance company told me my injuries could not have possibly been from my automobile accident. They even told me that they closed my file. Miller & Zois took my case and immediately filed a lawsuit on my behalf in Baltimore City. My attorneys fought the insurance company every step of the way until they gave me the maximum recovery allowed under the defendant’s insurance policy. Along the way, my attorneys listened to me, returned my calls and let me know that they really cared about me and my family.”

      C.H. (Baltimore City)

    • “I had confidence in the lawyers at Miller & Zois from my first meeting with them. It was obvious they cared about me and my case. • “When I realized my doctor had deceived me so he could perform a procedure that resulted in a lifetime disability, I didn’t know where to get help. I found Miller & Zois’s web page on-line and contacted Rodney Gaston. He, Laura Zois, and their team guided me through my malpractice lawsuit and 5-day trial which resulted in a 1.5 million verdict.Since I had never experienced anything like this before, I didn’t know how much work and experience was necessary to prepare for a trial. Rodney Gaston worked diligently through two years of preparation. He, Laura, and all of the Miller & Zois team were kind and caring to me, and very professional in every way. They brought it altogether with an outstanding closing argument.I can’t say enough to express my appreciation for their help and kindness throughout this painful experience. I would certainly recommend Miller & Zois to anyone who needs help with a malpractice lawsuit or any other lawsuit.”

      W.S. (Harford County)

    • “I was happy with the settlement offer than State Farm made. But Ron Miller thought we should keep fighting and we did. The case settled and I got a lot more money than I expected. Ron even fought to reduce how much I owed in medical bills so I could get an even larger settlement.”

    • “My sister did not get an offer in her auto accident case so she called Miller & Zois. Before long, the insurance company offered my sister the maximum amount of their insurance policy. So when I got hurt in an auto accident, I turned to Miller & Zois. Not only did they get me a great settlement, they got my health care providers to cut my medical bills in half! I would sent anyone I cared about who was injured in a car accident or by medical malpractice to Miller & Zois.”

      T.R. (Baltimore City)

    • “After my son and I were in a car accident, Miller & Zois fought tirelessly with State Farm to get a great settlement for me. Their office was wonderful to deal with and gave me very personal service. Just a joy to work with.”

      E.B. (Anne Arundel County)

    • “When I came to Miller and Zois initially for advice I’d been with an attorney who I didn’t feel was looking out for my best interests. I was so relieved to find Ron not only incredibly helpful and knowledgeable but also very supportive and not at all pushy. Both Laura and Ron were always willing to answer any questions and offer advice and opinions, all the while making certain I knew that all the decisions were mine to make. I so appreciate all the time and effort everyone put forth to help settle my case and my nerves. I don’t think I could have found attorneys more supportive, direct, and who were genuinely concerned for me and my welfare.”

      Gina Hallman (Prince George’s County)

    • “I was involved in a car accident in which the other driver was at fault. The driver’s insurance company rejected my claim and was told they would do nothing about it. After a search for legal representation I came across Miller and Zois. They took my case and I have had no regrets since. Miller and Zois maintained interest, compassion and knowledge when dealing with my case. The lines of communications were open throughout maintaining me up to date every step of the way. I went from an insurance Company rejecting my injuries caused by their driver to settling outside of court for a substantial amount. A thank you is a simple understatement in expressing my appreciation to Attorney Ronald Miller and his team. Once again with much gratitude.”

      Y.F.A (Prince Georges County)

    • “Laura Zois and John Bratt are truly a blessing from God and they changed my life. Miller and Zois is the best firm in the state of Maryland, and without their support, understanding, and just being there when I needed encouragement, I truly do not know how I would have succeeded without them. I owe Miller and Zois, John Bratt, and Laura Zois everything. Not only were they my lawyers, they became my family. Thank you so much. You were truly my blessing from God. I love you.”

Shannon Brown ($1 million jury verdict in Baltimore City)

    • “When my sister was killed, we turned to Miller & Zois to fight for us. They stood by us every step of the way and we ended up getting more money than we asked for.”

    • “I have a general practice law firm and I also do personal injury work, mainly auto accidents. I have tried a number of District Court cases but I had never done a personal injury jury trial in the Circuit Court. I had an auto accident case that had to be brought in the Circuit Court. I was hoping that after discovery, etc. I would receive a reasonable offer from the defendant to settle the case since liability seemed pretty clear; a rear-end case. However, the defendant was a self-insured taxi company and, probably sensing my inexperience in the Circuit Court, would not make any offer to settle. At that point, I decided to contact Miller & Zois to see if I could get them to co-counsel with me on the case. Even though it was late in the game, I received a call promptly from Attorney John Bratt. Miller & Zois then agreed to co-counsel with me and they gave me the option to stay involved or let them take over all the way. I chose to stay involved. It was a great learning experience for me.Mr. Bratt is an excellent attorney and a great teacher. I was pleased with the way he handled the case, his willingness to share his knowledge and to explain the rationale behind the things he did. I was also impressed with the way he took the time to understand the case, his timeliness in appearances before the Court (he was always early, never just on time) and his composure and delivery in Court. His approach to the case was to present our strongest evidence for damages and avoid presenting evidence that would sidetrack the jury and weaken our case.Just before trial the Defendants’ attorney, a good defense attorney, predicted that “on our best day we could not recover more than 2 times specials” when I replied that stranger things have happened; he said “stranger things may happen; but not in Montgomery County Circuit Court.” When the jury returned a verdict for our client for almost 6 times the specials; you could have heard a pin drop in the courtroom. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the outcome and with my decision to co-counsel with Miller & Zois, and in particular, for the excellent work and skills of Mr. Bratt. I would recommend Miller & Zois highly to any attorney that may need assistance in a personal injury matter.”

    • I served as the jury foreperson for a March 2013 trial in which Ms. Zois and Mr. Gaston represented a plaintiff who was injured when another driver, under the influence of narcotics, lost consciousness on the Baltimore beltway. I had no previous acquaintance with these attorneys or their firm and am offering these comments without compensation.

I must admit that prior to the trial, I had allowed a negative image to creep into my mind regarding personal injury attorneys. However, the trial and my subsequent post-trial conversation with Ms. Zois – initiated by me because I wanted to hear the rest of the story – gave me an entirely different perspective. I see now that she and her colleagues do important, honorable work on behalf of injured parties.

I also naively assumed that in cases like these, where the written records and facts of the case were so clear, injured parties need not engage attorneys and endure legal proceedings in order to secure a reasonable settlement from an insurance company. So this trial was educational for me, dispelling not one but two ill-informed misconceptions.

I have always had a hard time understanding the negative and disengaged attitudes many people seem to have toward jury service. We’re all busy – I’m a 24/7 single mother with three kids at home and a pretty challenging FT job, so I’m probably busier than most. But for goodness’ sakes – it’s only once every three years!

I view jury service as a privilege and a huge responsibility. As I sat in the courtroom, I thought about the amount of time, energy, and money that goes into preparing for, and conducting, a trial, and about what’s at stake, at least for the plaintiff, and about the fact that it’s all for the benefit of, and in the hands of, the six of us on the jury. That awareness sat in the back of my mind throughout the trial and through our deliberations.

I was very impressed by the case presentation offered by Ms. Zois and Mr. Gaston. Their opposing counsel was no slouch, and some jurors were initially swayed by his arguments. But Ms. Zois and Mr. Gaston had four clear advantages:

      1. They were obviously thoroughly prepared, and left no doubt that they had mastered the facts of the case.
      2. They had clearly thought carefully about how to present their case, which involved complicated medical information, to us on the jury in ways that were both simple and compelling.
      3. Even when several key rulings from the bench went against them, and when the judge repeatedly displayed evidence of having arisen on the wrong side of the bed, they adjusted seamlessly, without missing a beat, and continued to present witnesses and evidence in a very persuasive fashion.
      4. They came across as decent people. This might sound trivial, and maybe it should have been irrelevant, but some of us on the jury had to work to overcome our distaste for the opposing counsel. Ms. Zois and Mr. Gaston presented no such barrier.

One final note: After the trial ended, I contacted Ms. Zois and we discussed the case, mostly to satisfy my own interest in the story. She was warm, open, and genuine, not slick, packaged, and guarded, as I might have expected based on my ill-conceived stereotypes about personal injury attorneys. If I need to secure or recommend legal representation in a personal injury case, I’d call these folks.

  • “Initially, the insurance company made a low five-figure offer to settle my case, but Bob Fiore and Sara (his paralegal) put together a solid case and ultimately the case settled at Mediation for almost 20 times that original offer. It was a long journey, but I always felt I was in the best of hands with Bob and Sara. They worked effectively with my medical providers to ensure all the medical documentation accurately told my story of physical and emotional injuries from having been rear-ended by a tractor-trailer on the Capital Beltway on my way to work. Those injuries ended my once promising and high-paying Federal Government management career. Bob took depositions of witnesses, and guided me through my own deposition. Besides being outstanding advocates, Bob and Sara showed me tremendous compassion throughout the litigation process, and a genuine concern for my well-being. I can’t thank them enough!”

  • My experience with Miller & Zois has been very positive so I think it appropriate to say something in writing.

Waking up in Shock Trauma being told I was in a car accident was an experience I will never forget. When memory did not return weeks later I realized I needed an advocate to PROTECT me. From beginning to end, that is exactly what Miller & Zois (via Bob Fiore, Tina Taylor and staff) did. This happened in spite of much doubt there would EVER be any recovery because of my memory loss. They were professional, comforting and helpful throughout and I received much more compensation than I ever thought possible. Even after negotiating settlement they continued to work to increase what was paid to me. My first choice would always be to not be injured, but since we can’t go back, I am thankful for finding Miller & Zois to remedy as best as the law allows.
