The New Jersey Supreme Court has consolidated lawsuits involving the Stryker Rejuvenate hip stem and ABG II modular hip stem in the Bergen County Superior Court.
This is a New Jersey wide class action lawsuit. Sort of. The cases are consolidated in an MCL (MDL in federal court) which consolidates the cases for discovery purposes. There are some witnesses and evidence will be common to all of these Stryker hip lawsuits and they will be addressed in the MCL.
2022 Update: In 2014, agreed to settle the lion’s share of the metal-on-metal hip Rejuvenate and ABGII claims for $1 billion. There are still 105 cases in the MDL class action remaining as of March 2022.

This is the second Stryker MCL in New Jersey. Two years ago, a MCL was designated for all of the DePuy ASR hip replacement cases.
These cases are gaining more steam now that the FDA has finally agreed that there is a real problem. Stryker hip replacement patients are experiencing an unacceptable rate of failure and are having problems because the metal parts are rubbing together and wearing out (and spreading metal throughout the patient’s body).
At first, plaintiffs’ lawyers just focused their lawsuits on the ceramic ASR but quickly realized that the Rejuvenate and ABG II modular-neck hip stems are failing as well for different reasons. These cases have a long way to go but the jury of common sense is back on these Stryker hip replacements: they are a mess.
