Shingles is the adult version of chickenpox, and it most often affects people over the age of 50.<\/p>\n<p>After an outbreak of chickenpox during childhood, the virus lies dormant inside nerve cells for years. In most people, the virus never reappears, but in certain individuals, the long-dormant virus suddenly comes back to life as shingles later in their adulthood. Shingles are a very painful condition and cause a rash with significant blisters appearing on the skin.<\/p>\n    <section class=\"sc_fs_faq sc_card \">\n        <div>\n\t\t\t<h2>What Is the 2025 Zostavax Lawsuit Update?<\/h2>            <div>\n\t\t\t\t                <p>\n\t\t\t\t\t \u2009<span class=\"relative -mx-px my-&#091;-0.2rem&#093; rounded px-px py-&#091;0.2rem&#093; transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">As of July 2025, the federal multidistrict litigation concerning Merck&#8217;s Zostavax shingles vaccine has effectively concluded.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-&#091;-0.2rem&#093; rounded px-px py-&#091;0.2rem&#093; transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit upheld the dismissal of nearly 1,200 cases after plaintiffs failed to provide PCR test results to establish that their shingles infections were caused by the vaccine strain rather than the naturally occurring wild-type virus<\/span>. <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-&#091;-0.2rem&#093; rounded px-px py-&#091;0.2rem&#093; transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">This requirement, deemed essential by the court, proved challenging for plaintiffs, as PCR testing must be conducted during an active shingles outbreak, which was not feasible for many.<\/span>                 <\/p>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"read_more_link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.millerandzois.com\/products-liability\/drugs\/zostavax\/settlement-value-of-zostavax-shingles-vaccine-cases\/\"  title=\"Continue Reading Zostavax Shingles Lawsuit\" class=\"more-link\">Continue Reading \u203a<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zostavax was the first vaccine for the prevention of the herpes zoster virus, which is commonly known as &#8220;shingles.&#8221; Shingles is caused by the same virus responsible for chickenpox which occurs during childhood.
