It is an acute care hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in Mt. Vernon that is part of the University of Maryland Medical Systems. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It has 200 beds, and practices in most areas, including general surgery, wound care, emergency medicine, cardiology, orthopedics, and obstetrics\/gynecology. It is a teaching hospital, which means that much of the care is provided by medical residents. It has about 500 doctors and 1,100 employees. &nbsp;The hospital is building a new seven-story, 107,000-square-foot center focusing on metabolic diseases across the street from UMMC at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Linden Avenue.
